How your personal information is handled when you enquire about History tutoring through this website. Written in plain English for a private tutoring service.

Last updated: 4 June 2026

Who runs this site

This website is run by Bruno van Bergen, a private History tutor working with students across Bristol, Bath and online, trading as Bristol & Bath History Tuition. In this policy "I", "me" and "my" refer to Bruno van Bergen.

I am the person responsible for the personal information collected through this site. You can reach me by email at brunoavbergen@gmail.com or by phone on 07990 338 687.

What information I collect

I only collect the information you choose to send through the enquiry form. That typically includes:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number, if you provide it
  • The student's year group
  • The level of study (KS3, GCSE or A-Level)
  • The exam board, if you provide it
  • Your preferred tutoring format (online, in person or either)
  • The message you write
  • Confirmation that you are happy to be contacted (the consent checkbox)
  • A small amount of technical information used to prevent spam and abuse, such as your IP address and the contents of a hidden anti-spam field

Why I collect it

I use the information you send to:

  • Respond to your enquiry
  • Arrange a free introductory call
  • Provide and organise tutoring if you decide to go ahead
  • Manage ordinary communication about sessions and scheduling
  • Protect the website and form from spam and abuse
  • Keep basic records of enquiries and tutoring arrangements

I do not use your information for advertising, and I do not sell it or share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Lawful basis for using your information

Under UK data protection law I need a lawful basis to use your personal information. Depending on the situation, I rely on:

  • Legitimate interests: responding to enquiries and running a small tutoring service in a way you would reasonably expect.
  • Consent: where the form explicitly asks you to confirm that you are happy to be contacted. You can withdraw this at any time.
  • Contract and pre-contract steps: where we are arranging or providing tutoring that you have asked for.

Who your information is shared with

I keep things lean and use a small number of trusted providers to run the website and respond to enquiries:

  • Resend delivers enquiry notification emails to me.
  • Vercel hosts the website and runs the serverless function that receives your enquiry.
  • Cloudflare provides DNS and security protection for the domain.
  • Google Search Console is used only to see aggregate search and site performance data. It does not receive the contents of your enquiry.

These providers only process your information so that the service can function, and not for their own purposes.

How long I keep it

I keep enquiry information only as long as it is needed to respond to you and, where relevant, to provide tutoring.

  • Enquiries that do not lead to tutoring are normally deleted after around 12 months, unless there is a clear reason to keep them longer.
  • Records relating to active tutoring are kept while tutoring continues and for a reasonable period afterwards, for administration and for safeguarding and professional records.

If you would like your information removed sooner, contact me and I will deal with your request.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Ask what information I hold about you (access)
  • Ask me to correct information that is wrong (correction)
  • Ask me to delete your information (deletion)
  • Ask me to restrict how I use it (restriction)
  • Object to my use of it (objection)

To exercise any of these, email me at brunoavbergen@gmail.com. If you are not happy with how I have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Cookies and analytics

This site does not use marketing cookies or behavioural advertising cookies, and it does not track you across other websites. It does not run third-party advertising.

I use Vercel Analytics to understand overall traffic and which pages are useful. It is privacy-friendly: it does not set advertising cookies, does not follow you across other sites, and does not collect information that identifies you personally. Aggregate search performance data may also be visible to me through Google Search Console, which does not identify you individually and does not include the contents of any enquiry.

Children and young people

Enquiries are normally made by a parent or guardian. If a student contacts me directly, their details are handled only for the purpose of responding to the tutoring enquiry and for safeguarding and professional purposes. For students under 18, a parent or guardian is kept informed and is welcome to be involved.

Safeguarding

Working one-to-one with young people carries responsibilities that go beyond data protection. You can read how I approach this on the safeguarding and professional standards page.

How your information is kept secure

I take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, and I use reputable providers to host the site and deliver enquiry emails. No method of transmitting information over the internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so I cannot promise absolute security, but I take care to keep your information protected and to limit who can access it.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time, for example if the way the site works changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last reviewed. This policy is written in plain English to be clear and honest, and it is not formal legal advice.

How to contact me

For any question about privacy or about the information I hold, email brunoavbergen@gmail.com or call 07990 338 687. If a student is under 18, a parent or guardian is welcome to contact me on their behalf.
